Mermaid

I did a postcard for the inspiration swap. She is not the standard size. But, sometimes I find it difficult to get everything I want into a 4 x 6 postcard. I am still not sure if I'll create more or just do the one. I really want to spend time on learning how to do faces and this helps me out. I am also experimenting with inks. So, I incorporated some of these elements into the composition. I'm quite happy with her. But, I really want to practice more on the shading elements.

Puzzle Silk Fusion

I made some little silk fusion puzzle pieces. These were quite fun and it got me thinking that if I have some time I would like to do a wall size quilt with puzzle pieces. I made these cards for an open and shut theme. When you open the card, it plays "It's a small world". I am done with these electrical devices! They were such a pain to put into place. But, hopefully they will now work out for the recipients.

Now, on to my inspriation PC challenge. I am thinking I'll do something art deco since I really love that era and style. I would like to pay homage to Erte. We shall see if I can accomplish this!

Mail Day!

Today, I had a really great mail day. So, I figured I would share. It's great how I can feel inspired by the PC's and things I receive. It makes me want to go make something. I am working on a PC for another postcard group. When I am complete with these, I will just be focusing on the SurfaceDesign group for a while. The theme of the PC's is open/close. I wanted to sign up for this because I have these great little electrical devices that you put into cards and you open them up and they play a tune. It's been difficult incorporating them. I finally have an idea. I will do a puzzle piece for the front. Of course, I am still facinated by silk fusion, so the puzzle piece is made of silk fusion. I'll show the front of the PC when I get a chance.

So, here is my great mail day...

From SueB..a wonderful example of how to use sheers and a soldering iron...

From Heidi, I loved her blog so much, I asked if she might do a trade with me... I love all the different embellishments..

From Pat, for our Mythical and Mystical swap...a fun type of creature....

And, lastly from our materials swap a great bunch of hand dyed fabric and embellishments. Eventhough I do dye my own fabrics, I love to get others dyed fabrics. It's an art within itself!

Great News!

I found out today that two ATC's I submitted to QA will be in their ATC book. I am really happy with this as I only had a couple of hours to make something. It seems I always find out about deadlines at the last minute. So, I cut up a couple of postcards that I had handy to ATC size and walhalla!

In return for my ATC's, "Pookie" P. Bolton at QA sent me these...

I also thought I would share some other of my recent mail favorites I have received.

Here is a lovely ATC from Sue B..

Here is a great PC of ribbon embroidery from Ann Frishkorn..

And, lastly aren't the colors on the leaf great? This was a first time PC can you believe it? This is from Margaret Hurst.

ATCs

I whipped up a couple of ATC's this morning and decided to do the House Of Cards ATC challenge. So, I am sending these two ATC's in. I wish that the pictures could do the ATC's justice. It seems like it shows imperfections that you just don't see when looking at them. They are both made with silk fusion. The circle ATC has hand dyed silk as a backdrop. I wish I would have had more time to think about these but the deadline is August 18th.

Silk Dyeing

I really love the effect of dyed silk and the look of it within quilts. I have been involved in a materials swap with surface design where I will swap some hand dyed fabrics for other goodies!

The first two pieces are going to be traded and the last is one of my favorite dye jobs and I am not sure what will happen with this but I could not part with it! As you can see, I have a preference for bold colors!

A few of my favorite PC's

I have been in PC trades for almost a year now and have gotten some really great PC's. I thought I would share some that I have received. I will post more tomorrow of my favorites.

Here are two from Carol Straus www.carolstraus.com. Can you believe these are free motion?

Here are two of the first postcards I received from Valerie http://dyeing2sew.blogspot.com/

I really must learn how to add links!

Silk Fusion

I have been experimenting with silk fusion. Here is a sheet of silk fusion. I still need to work some more on creating an even texture. It is very hard to do when your surface is plastic.

Here is a ATC silk fusion and a postcard silk fusion made for the SurfaceDesign silk fusion trade..
